Taking a few minutes every week to maintain your spa will save you time and money in the future, as well as give you a more enjoyable hot tub experience. Follow these simple instructions and you will keep your hot tub clean, fresh and bacteria free.
The first thing you need to do is remove the filter cartridge(s) and rinse them with a garden hose. After rinsing the cartridge(s) soak them in a filter cleaning solution, follow the instructions on the filter cleaner package. After rinsing the cartridges again replace them in the spa.
Next, take a sponge and wipe along the water line to remove any scum build-up. If you have a large mount of scum around the top of the water line you should buy scumbugs or scumballs or use a scum digester in your weekly chemical routine.
Now you should test and adjust the chemicals in the water. If you have a bromine floater make sure it is full, also adjust the pH and Alkalinity. We recommend adding 2oz of the following chemicals: spa shock, water clarifier, metal remover, and scum digester. Please note there are also many chemical free sanitizers available, but our experience has shown us that spas will stay cleaner with more traditional sanitizing methods.
Along with performing weekly maintenance on your spa you should change the water in you spa once every 3 months. If you have a wood cabinet it should be treated once a year.
