Every pool filter needs to backwashed. Backwashing is basically the process of flushing the filter tank of debris it has collected since the last backwashing was performed. This process should generally be performed on a weekly basis. The more your filter is backwashed the better your filter system will operate and in turn keep your pool cleaner.

If your filter has a multiport valve follow these steps:

1. Turn off the filter system.
2. Turn multiport handle to the backwash position, if your backwash line has an individual valve on it make sure the valve is in the open position.
3. Turn on filter system and let run for 1 – 2 minutes.
4. Turn off the filter system.
5. Turn multiport handle to rinse position.
6. Turn on filter system and let run for 1 – 2 minutes.
7. Turn off the filter system.
8. Turn multiport handle to backwash position.
9. Turn on filter system and let run for 1 – 2 minutes.
10. Turn off the filter system.
11. Turn multiport handle to filter position and close any other valves on the backwash line.
12. Turn on the filter system.
13. Add necessary amount of Diatomaceous Earth to the skimmer nearest to the filter system.

If your filter has a bump handle on top follow these steps:

1. Turn off the filter system.
2. Open backwash valve, or remove drain plug.
3. Bump handle slowly 10 – 12 times.
4. Turn on filter system for 1 – 2 minutes.
5. Turn off the filter system.
6. Bump handle slowly 10 – 12 times.
7. Turn on filter system for 1 – 2 minutes.
8. Turn off the filter system.
9. Close backwash valve, or replace drain plug.
10. Turn on the filter system.
11. Add necessary amount of Diatomaceous Earth to the skimmer nearest to the filter system.
